Crushed ice is very often used in drinks that have a high alcoholic content, viscous textures, and bold flavorssuch as tiki drinks. The extra dilution helps tone down the strength of flavors, open up flavors, and balance out the texture (viscosity) of the drink.

Pro Tip: Smack the Lewis back over a solid and dense surface. If you have thin countertops, find a place of your counter that has a support beam. For added stability, I like to bang against a thick wood cutting board.

For this method you need a clean kitchen towel, and a hammering device. Either a rolling pin, a hammer, something hefty and solid that will not break (I use the butt of an empty booze bottle as a last resort).

I have to say, this is not my preferred method. I feel I have no control over the size of the ice. It tends to produce a lot of snow, and not enough pebbles is you're not careful. But, if you live in an apartment building, it won't wake up the neighbors if using a Lewis bag.

Although, there is one machine that folks swear by and is still available for purchase. In the book Smuggler's Cove, they recommend the Waring IC70. I've never used it personally, but I'd take the recommendation from such an acclaimed tiki master.

Here are some places in the US (and depending on the city you live) that use pebble ice: your local craft cocktail bar, local fish markets, chik-fil-a, Sonic, Costco. They don't technically sell ice, but if you ask kindly (and offer a few bucks), you can procure some.

grapefruit crush recipe (4 ingredients!) - eat the gains

Light and refreshing Grapefruit Crush recipe using only 4 ingredients for an easy grapefruit cocktail! Just like an orange crush, but made with grapefruit juice. Easy to make and like you are sipping one at the bars on the Delaware Beaches but for a lot cheaper at home!

Summer is winding down, but its still hot as heck out some days, and a refreshing cocktail can hit the spot, especially when you are at the beach like me.Couldnt be a better combo than that if you ask me!

Weve spent the last month on the east coast at the Delaware beaches with my family and whenever Im here, the alcohol is flowing. While I dont drink like I used to, I still enjoy it from time to time and love a good mixed drink. And whenever Im in Delaware, crushes are definitely one of the things to drink, especially in Dewey Beach!

Delaware beaches are known for their orange crush, but I am changing things up making a grapefruit crush. I have always been a huge fan of grapefruit its tangy, a little sweet and sour, and so refreshing!

A healthier grapefruit cocktail made with only 4 ingredients! Light and refreshing and makes the perfect easy drink to whip together when you want to enjoy yourself and still keep in mind yourhealth and wellness goals (if you have any!).

First, if using freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, squeeze your grapefruits. You can either just use a citrus reamer (like I did) or a juicer if you have one. You need 2 medium to large grapefruits for 2 drinks.

Once that is squeezed, add it to a shaker with cubed ice. Then add your vodka and triple sec. Shake well to combine and slightly chill. Evenly distribute it into two tumbler/rocks glasses with ice. Finally, top it off with a little sparkling water. I used about 1/8-1/4 cup in each, but you can add to your liking.

When crushes are made at the bars in Delaware, they always use fresh-squeezed juice (they usually squeeze it right in front of you in a citrus press!), and I personally think it makes all the difference. I find fresh-squeezed juice is more flavorful, it isnt as sour (especially when buying grapefruit juice), is all-natural, and contains more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants since it isnt processed. If you have had fresh-squeezed, it honestly just tastes better!

That being said, if you dont have fresh-squeezed, you can always use bottled. Look for a kind that is just 100% juice without any sweeteners or weird preservatives. I find that bottled juice can be a little bit tangier, so you may need a little more triple sec or sweetener.

5 different ways to make an orange crush weddings today

The orange crush reportedly was born in 1995 at Harborside Bar & Grill in Ocean City, Maryland. Like its beloved blue crab, this Maryland import is now a Delaware beach staple. The classic is ideal for a summer wedding. Or, treat guests to a colorful tweak on the traditional.

Shake the vodka, triple sec and coconut water together. Strain over ice. Add the soda. Garnish and serve. For another alternative, replace the 3 ounces of coconut water with 3 ounces of pineapple juice and garnish with a slice of pineapple instead of a lime wedge. (This is known as a Colada Crush.)

Create grapefruit-infused gin by removing the peel of one grapefruit in thin strips and placing it in a glass jar with 8 ounces of gin. Cover and let stand for an hour before straining. Pour gin, Aperol and Maraschino Liqueur into a wine glass. Add ice and juice. Top with club soda. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

1 ounce of Dogfish Head Compelling Gin Juice from 12 of an orange 12 ounce of simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water heated until the sugar is dissolved) 2 12 ounces of Prosecco Orange twist for garnish

This Grapefruit Crush cocktail is crazy, all-over-the-place in Baltimore, Maryland and surrounding areas. How did crush cocktails become so popular in Baltimore? It mimics the very popular Orange Crush cocktail recipe that has its origins on the Maryland shores- specifically at the Harborside Bar and Grill in Ocean City, Maryland. It all began with the ORANGE Crush (orange vodka, triple sec, orange juice and Sprite). The Crush trend took off and eventually settled in to Baltimore as the citys featured cocktail.

Crushes of all flavors have maneuvered their way into the city of Baltimore, and youll see them on the menu at every bar. Nowadays, youll see variations such as Bourbon Crushes, Lemonade Crushes, Pineapple Crushes and more. The Grapefruit Crush seems to be a popular favorite. What they all have in common is using freshly squeezed juice. These days, a lot of people like to make the skinny version of the crush cocktail using club soda in place of 7-up or Sprite.

My son attended a lacrosse camp at Goucher college in Towson a few weeks ago, and my husband and I stayed in the inner harbor area of Baltimore. We loved exploring the area (though it wasextremely hot and humid!) Our hotel concierge suggested we try the crush cocktails, so we sought them out and gave them a shot. I tried a peach crush and a grapefruit crush. The grapefruit was my favorite!

I used grapefruit seltzer, no calories and not so sweet. The ruby red grapefruit freshly squeezed is sweet enough. Buy good Vodka, like the ruby red Deep Eddy it definitely makes a difference in the taste!

Yes! My husband and I were just there last month to visit my brother and sister-in-law who just moved there and these were EVERYWHEREand I had them everywhere! So many to choose from but I went with the classic grapefruit every time. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

I was just there this past week and always have to visit Harborside for their Orange Crushes!!! I did see these on the menu but wasnt sure glad to know they are just as awesome as its original counterpart I will def be making these at home yummmmmmm!!!
