Back in the 1960's Hewitt Robins designed and produced Mobile Washing & Screening Plants called 'Washmore'. These plants came in three sizes to handle either 60 cu.m/h, 100 cu.m/h or 150 cu.m/h. The plants consisted of twin axel frame, revolving scrubber, a three-deck washing screen, and screw conveyor.

In 1988 Hewitt Robins supplied four Low Angle Screens for a dredger in the Netherlands. These machines were handling a combined feed of 700tph of dredged material, which was washed on the first two Horizontal wash screens. The sand was dewatered on the final two dewatering screens at a combined feed rate of 500tph to allow it to be dry enough to be conveyed to shore.

Lippmann jaw crushers are fabricated with an extra-heavily ribbed steel plate construction to provide maximum strength and durability while in operation. Frames are stress relieved before machining and after welding to ensure the highest quality product. Through finite element analysis, Lippmann engineers have been able to provide jaw crushers with maximum strength at all stress points; promoting trouble-free operation.

The success of Hewitt Robins has been built on the principle that the relationship with the end-user is a partnership, continuing long after installation and commissioning, on some sites this relationship continues for over 60 years.

This simple principle has given Hewitt Robins a valuable insight into the challenges of operating large bulk material handling plants, allowing for practical technical innovation in equipment design, further improving the longevity of equipment, reducing operational costs and building firm foundations for successful preventive maintenance.

This is to ensure maximum operational efficiency at the lowest possible operational cost not only for the total equipment but for each individual component. These fundamental design principles form the foundations of every Hewitt Robins machine, resulting in bespoke designs for each and every application, ensuring performance is not compromised through the supply of a generic standard.

All Hewitt Robins machines and components are designed with consideration to the above design criteria, aiding with onsite maintenance, making Hewitt Robins the preferred supplier to some of the worlds largest Bulk Material producers. Site operators gain valuable time not only through the longevity of the equipment but also through the time saved when components are replaced.

Hewitt Robins machines are of bolted design allowing for individual modular component replacement, removing the need for time-consuming welding or cutting onsite. Exciter units, cross-members, liners, discharge lips, and feed boxes are designed to be single modular cassettes allowing interchangeability, reducing the need to carry excess stock. The number of single lift components within each machine is maximized, without increasing the number of components in the total assembly, where this is not possible the incorporation of lifting points to aid time-efficient and safe reinstallation are incorporated.

The Hewitt Robins range of vibrator mechanisms are designed for long life and minimal maintenance; the range covers machine sizes from 0.5m x 1m single deck screens to 4.5m x 10m multi-deck screens. The Quad V vibrator pod gives total onsite flexibility being utilised on both horizontal and inclined machines, further reducing the need to carry multiple spares. This gearless pod type design not only increases bearing life and reduces operational temperatures and noise, but it also allows for rapid exchange during routine maintenance thanks to the incorporation of the quick-release coupling ring design.

The final consideration in design is access, for any preventive maintenance to be successful it is fundamental to maximise this, allowing visual inspections and maintenance work to be carried out safely and efficiently. A recognition of this has led to multiple access points being incorporated into the design of Hewitt Robins machines, specific access points are incorporated through individual decks as well as at the rear of the machine. Space is also maximised by increasing the space between the decks, all of which allows maintenance teams to work without needing to be classed as confined space trained.

For a Hewitt Robins customer this is addressed through the operator training programmes that Hewitt Robins offers. These are delivered at the manufacturing facilities during the manufacturing and assembly process. The programmes give site operators first-hand experience of the equipment prior to installation, ensuring the relevant knowledge is on site prior to delivery, guaranteeing smooth operation from day one. In addition, all Hewitt Robins equipment is supplied with a user-friendly digital operations and maintenance manual which details, assembly drawings, maintenance schedules, inspection procedures as well as parts lists.

Not all operators have the resource to carry out onsite maintenance, which is why Hewitt Robins undertakes health checks on behalf of customers, allowing extended warranty agreements to be put in place. These inspections consist of a mixture of visual, diagnostic, and analytical techniques that are collectively reviewed to establish the operating status of the equipment. Each inspection is tailored to the specific machine and number of hours of operation. A major inspection would encompass a full strip and dimensional inspection of critical components, modal and ODS testing as well as oil sampling and oil changes.

The collective review of the data during each health check enables relevant focused maintenance work to be carried out at the next planned shutdown. Successive inspections and comparisons increase the reliability of the machines as trending highlights areas of potential risk. This approach gives the customer the reassurance that failures will not occur, allowing enough time to plan maintenance work.

Not only is Hewitt Robins using technology for preventative maintenance but they also use 3D software to model up the machines, using FARO Arm to ensure quality assurance as well as carrying out full ODS and Modal testing of the equipment whilst on test in the workshop and during health checks visits. Using this kind of technology has propelled Hewitt Robins to be one of the number one vibrating equipment manufacturers worldwide.

Hewitt Robins has developed real-time condition monitoring that allows users to continuously check the running speed, amplitude, temperatures, and bearing conditions of the machines whilst in operation.

By continually monitoring the condition of these parameters the machine and its components are protected. The condition monitoring system ensures early detection of damage and condition-based maintenance of the machine. The real-time monitoring of critical variables delivers additional peace of mind and makes sure the machine is energy efficient.

As you can see there is a lot more to successful maintenance than at site level. With the considered design, state of the art manufacturing techniques, detailed after-sales support, the incorporation of the latest technology and a continuous relationship between the OEM and the end-user guarantees Hewitt Robins equipment continues to run for many years.

An exciting opportunity has arisen which requires a self-motivated individual, with strong organisational skills, to provide a comprehensive administrative support service to the busy Hewitt Robins team.

Hewitt Robins supplies and supports some of the largest construction, steel, and mining companies globally. The world-class service exchange programme allows customers to carry consignment stock of critical components and ensures minimal downtime.
