For children who got kidney disease, brain and bone diseases caused by high aluminum content is found in their body. In these cases, bone damage is caused by aluminum in the stomach, which prevents the absorption of phosphates- necessary compounds for healthy bones.

The substances produced during the bauxite mining process include dust, sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). The mining and beneficiation of bauxite do not involve the use of chemical reagents and produces no odors.

Concerning noise emissions, the main sources related to bauxite mining may include: engines of heavy equipment ( bulldozers, excavators, loaders, transport trucks); crushers and beneficiation equipment; conveyors; railways; bauxite loading, unloading and storage of power generation; bulldozers; and drilling and blasting.

AGB2A, a Guinea based company, produces one of the best metallurgical grade bauxite for alumina refinery by dry beneficiation process involving crushing and screening of ore. GBT bauxite is unique and different from usual Guinea bauxite as these are embedded in the silica rich fines at the periphery of hillocks. This is the first project in Guinea to beneficiate bauxite ore at the mine site and export high quality ore. The XRF, quantitative mineralogical analysis and bomb digestion tests showed that this is an ideal bauxite for low temperature alumina refinery. Beneficiated lumpy bauxite has fairly high available alumina (44-46% in average) and low reactive silica 1.2 to 1.4 with less than 1% boehmite.

The microstructure of bauxite determines to a significant extent the opportunities for its beneficiation and optimum processing downstream. Adequate fine grinding commensurate with its microstructure may result in proper mineral liberation and grain size distribution required for effective ore dressing (i.e. H/M or magnetic separation) and digestion respectively. Particle size distribution, mean diameter and amount of ooidal grains as well as degree of dissemination of the impurities in polished sections of raw bauxite, ground bauxite and red mud samples were determined by means of scanning electron-microscope, electron probe micro-analyser and digital image analysis. The results of beneficiation tests (effective removal of liberated limestone but insufficient reduction of finely disseminated reactive silica) and the required digestion parameters of the mainly oolitic Greek diasporic and the Hungarian boehmitic (partly dolomitic) bauxite are discussed. Based on the microstructure, the effectiveness of beneficiation, the degree of grinding (required particle size) and also the necessary digestion parameters of any bauxite can be adequately predicted.
