Unlike direct dryers, indirect dryers do not rely on direct contact between the material and process gas to dry the material. Instead, the rotating drum is enclosed in a furnace, which is externally heated. Contact with the heated drum shell is what dries the material.

Versatile Drying method (Batch or Continuous Type) used for drying for various types of Liquid concentrates efficiently. It can also reduce the energy requirement of a spray dryer plant when used as a second stage dryer for production of instant quality powders. Fluid bed dryer comprises of a top fluidizing chamber & a bottom air distribution chamber separated by a specially designed perforated plate. The feed of wet materials is dried by intimate contact with hot air when the material is in a fluidized state. A vibrating mechanism can be attached to give a forward motion cum agitation to the product at a controlled rate. It is also used as second stage dryer for many products.

Spin Flash Dryer is ideal for drying of wet cake, slurry, paste which is normally difficult to dry in other dryers. The material is fed by screw feeder through a variable speed drive into the vertical drying chamber where it is heated by hot air and at the same time disintegrated by a specially designed disintegrator. The heating of air may be direct or indirect depending upon the application. The dry powder is collected through cyclone separator / bag filter or with combination of both.

This type of dryer is used for converting concentrated material to solid/semi solid form. This is designed with vacuum system / without vacuum system. Solvents/water is collected through condenser. Feed is pumped to heat exchanger where it is scrapped /agitated through series of multiple blades on the inner surface of a vertical shell and shell is heated by steam. Due to vigorous agitation the heat transfer is fast and slurry is converted to solid/semi-solid form.

At 179,000ACFM volume capacity, Dedert's expertise has resulted in the world's largest partially-closed PGR Ring Dryer that is able to evaporate 34 tons of water per hour in a single unit! But what is ring drying?

Ring drying is an extension to flash drying with the addition of a manifold classifier to allow semi-dry solids to internally circulate until fully dry, which allows the ring dryer to be more energy-efficient. With its short residence time of only a few seconds, the solids are not exposed to a high-heat environment for a long duration which results in ring dried product offering the highest product quality compared to products from other drying technologies. The versatility of the ring dryer design also accommodates variations in product grades and characteristics, including changes in moisture content, evaporation rate, and product composition that could affect drying behavior.

A Feed-Type Ring Dryer is arranged so that the manifold directs the solids recycle back to the higher-temperature feed zone for maximum dryer efficiency. The manifold acts as a centrifugal classifier, selectively recycling the heavier semi-dry product through a chute to the disperser for another drying pass. This ring dryer arrangement is suitable for more resilient product types that can sustain limited exposure to high heat, such as corn fiber, corn gluten, DDGS, or minerals.

In a P-Type Ring Dryer, named after its distinguishable "P" shape, the manifold directs the solids recycle back into the lower-temperature exhaust zone for temperature-sensitive products. This arrangement offers certain harder-to-dry products the additional residence time to reach sufficient dryness without causing unwanted denaturation, such as starch gelatinization.

The unique manifold design in a Full-Ring Dryer offers two functions: a) solids recycle through the hot duct to the air-swept disintegrator, and b) extended residence, if needed, within the manifold to reach sufficient dryness. Challenging drying applications needing extra milling or dynamic blending in the airstream benefit from this dryer type, such as specialty products like wood pulp or vital wheat gluten.

Each of the ring dryer types can have either Open-Circuit (OC) or Partial Gas Recycle (PGR) configuration to suit the product application or operational requirements. Under OC, ambient air is used as the 1-pass drying medium. Under PGR, additional energy efficiency is achieved by recirculating the majority of the dryer exhaust stream back to the air heater as a preheated drying medium.

Spray drying is method of dehydrating fluids, solutions and thin slurries, it converts the fluids or slurries to powder form. Liquid or slurry material to be dehydrated is sprayed in the form of a fine droplet dispersion into hot airstream. Both air and material either travel in parallel or counterflow. Drying in spray dryer occurs at very fast rate so that the contact of material to heat is not for longer time hence its does not damage the heat selectivity materials and becomes ideal for drying such materials.
